The Left Behind Children - Kampot, Cambodia

the adventures

"Where in the world is Kampot?"

I had never heard of Kampot before. So, when a friend told me about her recent visit to a children's centre near it, I was intrigued. Located about 2.5 hours' drive South-West of Phnom Penh, Kampot is a beautiful and laidback riverside town. It bears residues of French colonial influence, and is famous for producing and exporting Kampot Pepper all over the world. It turned out that I was the ignorant one.

Well, one initial community outreach mission there soon led to another. What drew me to the Kampot area was not just the rustic beauty of the township, the river, the villages and the many unexplored hills and jungles. More importantly, it was the relationships that I developed with the many gorgeous kids at The Hope Centre, a locally set up and run care centre for neglected rural children. Each time, they would welcome us with the kind of genuine joy that only kids could exhibit. No expectations of gifts, but simply our friendship...and an agreement to play and laugh together.

Here are my two humanitarian adventures....

I. Community Outreach Mission

II. Community Outreach Mission
