River Life - Hoi An, Central Vietnam

the adventure

I have always wanted to visit Hoi An. Famed for its very well-preserved historic streets and buildings, scenic river, rustic villages and an interestng mix of Japanese, Chinese, French and Vietnamese influences, the once-prosperous trading seaport of Hoi An bears a very unique old-world charm. Although usually bustling with activity and sounds both day and night, there can also be a tranquil, laidback and quiet side to picturesque Hoi An.

For once, this was a humanitarian adventure where the populace was not afflicted by disasters or dire emergencies. Cycling around the rustic countryside on an old-fashioned bicycle, or mingling completely with the warm-hearted locals on a slow stroll in the pretty town, this was one adventure where I could leisurely explore, discover and appreciate a community of people living their lives, selling their wares on the streets, planting their rice in the wet fields, rowing their boats in the river, and casting their nets into the water for a good catch of fish.

A most wonderful experience of exploration and discovery!
