Refugees - Thai-Burmese Border Region, Thailand
the adventure
"Blessed to be a blessing!"
Karen tribal communities move very fluidly at the Thai-Burmese border region. Many of these communities have been displaced from their original land and homes, due to armed conflict with the Burmese military.
For many years, the Anglican Crisis Relief and Outreach Support (ACROSS), a Singaporean-based NGO, provided them with much-needed medical, dental and eye-care assistance. It also helped supplement the communities' meagre diet with essential staples like rice. Over time, ACROSS built a strong relationship with many of the Karen communities there.
During my mission there with ACROSS in early 2013, I met a resilient people. They did not have very much, but most had a cheerful disposition and a hope for a better future. It was difficult not to love them.
Our team had gone to this beautifully rural and scenic area of the Thai-Burmese border, hoping to offer some assistance, but we came away very blessed instead.
